Aptiva - EMM386 Error#12 when running certain applications
Applicable to: World-Wide
Service Information:
If booting up the Aptiva from the games disk, then playing Theme Park for a while, suddenly gives rise to an EMM386 error #12 the following may be of interest. This is a stack error, which could mean one of two things:
1. An error has occurred by chance within the memory management.
2. There is a problem with the system memory.
The two suggested suggest are:
1. Re-install the Aptiva Software since the Games Disk uses the copy of EMM386.EXE from the DOS directory, and if this fails to resolve the error, check the EMM386 line for the following parameters :-
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE HIGHSCAN NOEMS I=E000-F4FF X=F500-FEFF
An EMM386 error #12 should include some idea of the memory location where the fault occurred, e.g. '... at location F000:6431'.
Try excluding the region in which the fault occurs - in this example, I would choose X=EEFF-F0FF as a suitable exclusion as it encompasses the major fault address with a 100h sandwich.
2. Have the machine serviced, in particular examining the memory SIMMS.
