Aptiva - Hard drive size limit on systems with Windows 95
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
A hard drive larger than 2GB is purchased and setup under Windows 95 but does not operate correctly.
Solution:
File Allocation Table - 32 (FAT32) is required for hard drive partitions larger than 2GB. FAT32 is available under Windows 95 OSR2 (4.00.950B) only. OSR2 can only be purchased with a new computer. The models 2144/2168/2134/2176/2159 do not have OSR2. Therefore, one must partition hard drives larger than 2GB in smaller partitions. Models 2161 and 2162 do not have FAT32 functioning on the machine, however, the user may install this file allocation table by re-FDISKing the machine, and then reformatting using FAT32. This option is also available for the 2159-S80 and 2159-S90 models.
The 2136, 2137, 2138, 2140, and 2142 models are shipped with FAT32 enabled.
