Aptiva - 2159/2176-C6Z - How to run easy test diagnostics

The following steps can be used to run Easy Test Diagnostics on Sxx and the 2176-C6Z systems:

1. Place the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD-ROM Disk in CD-ROM drive. Use proper shutdown procedures, power off the system. Restart the system booting from the CD.

2. At the Menu, Option one "Run Easy Test Diagnostics" should already be highlighted, press "Enter" to select option one.

3. At the next screen, press any key other than "Enter" to continue. If you press "Enter," the system will restart.

4. At the "Q/A Plus Novice Diagnostics" screen, Press "Enter" to select "Easy Test.", System analysis then occurs.

5. When the activity stops, the first test is the floppy drive. To skip the floppy drive test, press "Escape" and testing of other components will continue. To test floppy drive, insert a high-density, formatted, non-write-protected floppy diskette into drive and press "Enter" to continue with testing.

6. The system board and other components are then tested; this portion of the test should take approximately 8-9 minutes. It will then stop at the Mwave Adapter Test Screen.

7. At the Mwave Adapter Test screen, as the directions on the screen instruct , remove any audio, mic, or joystick cables from the back of Mwave card. These are the orange and the purple wires on back of tower, next to telephone line connection.

8. Press "Enter" to continue with test. After Mwave adapter test is completed, results of complete test will be displayed on a blue screen. Use "Up" or "Down arrows to scroll through data. Press "Escape" for next screen. If any of the system components have failed the testing procedure, it will be stated clearly in this log. You will receive an opportunity to print the Log. Press "Escape" to cancel printing of log and to end Easy Test Diagnostics. This report may also be printed upon completion of the Easy Test and may be reviewed from the "Aptiva Helper, IBM Helpware Support page when your return to Windows (scroll down to Easy Test Log).

The path for the simple log is: c:\diagnost\simple.log. The path for the detailed log is: c:\diagnost\verbos.log. Both may be viewed with Windows Notepad or a word processor.

9. Remove the Diagnostics CD disc press "Enter" to shut down system. Replace the any audio, mic or joystick cables on back of tower. They are color-coded with the respective sockets on Mwave card.
