Aptiva - Errors in Smart Sound

If you get the following error message when starting Smart Sound "Cannot find smartsound.exe" One or more of the files is corrupt or missing.
You will need to reinstall Smart Sound.
How To Install / Uninstall Smart Sound
To remove Smart Sound from your Aptiva, follow these steps:
1. Go to a dos prompt by clicking on start, then programs, and then on msdos prompt.
2. At the C:\WINDOWS prompt, type cd\ [ENTER]
3. At the C:\ prompt, type cd smartsnd [ENTER]
4. At the C:\SMARTSND prompt type uninstal [ENTER]
Before reinstalling SmartSound you will need to download the APTRSTOR.EXE. To download the file, click here

1. At a command prompt type "APTRSTOR.EXE" and press [ENTER]. This command will explode the file from the hard drive to a floppy disk. Follow the prompts and insert a floppy disk into drive A.
To reinstall Smart Sound do the following:
1. From the Windows 95 desktop, click on start, then shutdown, pick the option to shutdown the computer, and then click on yes. Insert the Aptiva Product Recovery CD into the cd rom drive label side up.
2. At the C:\WINDOWS prompt, Type g: [ENTER]
3. At the G:\ prompt type cd recovery\us [ENTER]
4. At the G:\RECOVERY\US prompt type restore c:\ smartsnd*.* [ENTER]
This will reinstall Smart Sound onto your Aptiva. If the icon disappears, do the following to get it back:
1. From the Windows 95 desktop, click on start, programs, and then windows explorer.
2. On the left hand side, click on windows. This should bring up the contents of windows on the right hand side.
3. Find the file smartsnd.grp and double click on it on the right hand side. This will reinstall the icon for you and place it back into the start menu.
