Aptiva - Installer support documentation

Symptom:
The Aptiva Installer allows you to easily install software bundles, after Market Software, and few preload applications (Such as Mwave and MPEG).
The software you have installed and uninstalled will be graphically displayed with the product icon in the user interface. If an icon is not present or can not be extracted, a default icon will be used. For bundled software, the preload will contain information for each CD, so that if a bundle CD is inserted and you select Search, that CD will be identified and installed automatically. For after market software (non bundled), an install program will be identified and verified by the user. install will be executed, and the required control information will be taken from the installed code, or entered by the user.

Known Quirks And Soloutions:
1. You cannot uninstall or reinstall the preloaded or bundled Microsoft programs due to lega contracts with Microsoft. This includes "Creative Writer", "Works", and "Windows 95". To reinstall any of these, the user MUST do a full recovery.
2. If the user is installig a non-bundled DOS program, the installer may not recognize the program as installed and the DOS install program will not add any icons or groups to the start menu!
3. If a program does NOT install anything to the hard disk exept for creating a shortcut, the installer will show that program as installed when the CD is in the CD drive, and show it as uninstalled if the CD is NOT in the CD drive. This is because the program executable and all needed files reside in the CD.
