TP 380,385 - Installing the IBM Turbo Token Ring PCMCIA adapter in Windows 95.

NOTE: Each scenario below assumes proper installation of the SystemSoft Cardworks Drivers.

INSTALLATION:
Where installation is incorrect
- Follow the instructions in the readme file located in the \cardwork directory to remove drivers.

- Reinstall drivers from the installation diskettes made from disk factory or downloaded from the IBM WWW site.

- When reinstalling, choose "Minimum Install" to avoid loading all the flash memory support . Loading all the flash memory support will add Ghost Drive Letters to your system.

Preload
- This assumes that you have a preloaded machine, and the adapter is being installed for the first time.

- Required: Diskette 2 of the set that ships with the Turbo TR Card, or TRPCC2.EXE from the BBS or WWW site.

NOTE: Do not insert the adapter prior to reading the instructions,

Where Recovery is necessary, follow the procedure below
1. From the Control Panel, Network icon, install your network client (such as client for Microsoft Networks) and any Protocols (such as IPX or Netbeui) that you will need for your network. Shut down and restart.

2. Go to the \windows\inf directory and rename netibmcc.inf to netibmcc.org.

3. Insert the Card (make sure the cable is connected to the card and the network
Cardworks will detect the card, and launch the wizard to assist with the install. It will fail to find any files to use, and prompt you to choose what type of driver to install - SELECT HAVE MFR. DISK

4. At the a: prompt, choose browse, then go to the a:\win95 directory and select netibmc4.inf, then OK

NOTE: Where there is no specification of the INF file in the Windows 95 directory on the diskette, Cardworks will state that there was no installation file on the diskette. When prompted to attempt installation of the adapter in Cardsoft Mode, Do NOT attempt the installation. Click the NO button, and the install will end. Remove and reinsert the adapter, retry, beginning at
step 3 above.

4a) You will be prompted to confirm the ringspeed and other adapter settings.

4b) You will be prompted for the diskette, type a:\win95 in the "copyfiles from" dialog box.

4c) You will be prompted for some windows files, they are in the c:\windows\options\cabs directory.

5) Shut down, restart and log on, enjoy . The card will typically default to the following resource settings, but these may be changed if required via - Device manager: IRQ 10I /O 0300-0303 Memory C8000-C9FFF

Recovery from a failed installation
This assumes an unsuccessful attempt in configuring the adapter.

1. Remove the adapter from the system and start Windows 95

2. Open Control Panel, Network, and remove the adapter entry in the list. If it is listed multiple times, make sure you remove each instance.

3. From the Windows\inf subdirectory rename or delete the following files:

DRVDATA.BIN
DRVIDX.BIN
NETIBMCC.INF

4. From the Windows\system directory delete the following file:

IBMTOK.VXD

5. Shut Down and restart the system.

6. Insert the card

7. Depending on the nature of the failed installation, it will trigger the Cardwizard detect process, OR the Windows 95 Plug and Play new hardware process.

If The cardwizard restarts, run the installation as listed above, starting at step #3.

Note: If the Windows 95 "New Hardware Detected" process starts up (i.e. you get a dialog box, but it is not Cardworks" you will be prompted to supply a driver. Again, use the diskette 2 from the IBM Turbo Token Ring package or TRPCC2.EXE from the WWW and point the installation to the Windows 95 directory on the diskette. You will have selected the correct driver if
the dialog box then renames the detected device "IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring Card". Then continue the installation starting at step 4a above.
