PCMCIA 14.4 Data/Fax Modem with Integrated DAA - Questions and Answers

Question:
Does this modem work in Windows 95?
Answer:
IBM doesn't officially support the modem under Windows 95. However, MicroSoft included a modem definition for the modem within the August release of Windows 95. It will be Listed: IBM 14.4 with integrated DAA .
** Note: Do not install the provided DOS drivers with the 10H9350.
Question:
What drivers are installed by the driver diskette?
Answer:
DOS:
Config.sys: device=c:\pccomdos\pccomdos.sys com2 /BEEP /WINBIOS
Autoexec.bat: pcquery
It also installs a utility called "pctest" which is a diagnostics diskette.
Question:
What kind of driver is the pccomdos.sys driver?
Answer:
This is a Point Enabler... remove it if you have card and socket services installed. Not compatible with autodrv.sys or pcmscd.exe
Question:
Customer has trouble connecting with 7 data bits/even parity what can be done?
Answer:
We have a flash in the communications area that corrects this problem.
Question:
Getting no dialtone with the modem?
Answer:
This modem is very prone to high phone-line voltage burn-out... so, warranty replace the adapter. However, another problem is that the 2 copper pins that connect the modem with the cable are bent and cannot be used.

What does the modem look like?
Answer:
Label on the front is white with Purple Letters... Label reads: "PCMCIA Data/Fax Modem With Integrated DAA"
Question:
What kind of Cellular capabilities does the modem have?
Answer:
The modem only supports MNP 10 protocol which is compatible with cell-type connections MNP 10 control strings

Link negotiation at 1200bps

Link negotiation at 4800bps

Does the 10H9350 support Hayes Autosync?
Answer:
Yes... command is &Q4
Question:
What driver does it install for OS/2?
Answer:
Device=c:\pccom\pccom.sys /any /beep /biosupdate
* Note this driver isn't required if you have autodrv2.sys.
