ScrollPoint Mouse - Installation and Configuration

About the IBM ScrollPoint Mouse:
Product Description:
The IBM ScrollPoint Mouse has a unique mouse stick that performs convenient scrolling and zooming. It also has
programmable buttons that execute typical mouse functions.

Operating Modes:
The ScrollPoint Mouse gives you two operating mode Universal or Office 97 Compatible. Office 97 compatible mode allows special features to work only within MicroSoft's Office 97 software or compatible applications. Within Office 97 or compatible
applications, you can use the auto scrolling zooming and data zooming features.

Universal mode, the default, allows vertical and horizontal scrolling in applications that run under MicroSoft Windows 95. In Office 97 compatible applications, universal mode also supports auto scrolling zooming and data zooming.

Features:
One Touch Scrolling:
The mouse stick on the ScrollPoint mouse is designed to allow scrolling with only a slight touch of the mouse stick.

Auto Scrolling
In Office 97 and compatible applications, you can scroll a document without having to push the stick continuously.

Zooming:
In Office 97 and compatible applications, use the mouse stick to magnify or minimize the view of a document.

Data Zooming:
In Office 97 and compatible applications, you can zoom in on specific data in a document. An example would be expanding or collapsing outlines within a document.

HyperJump and CyberJump:
HyperJump and CyberJump allows for the combining of eight different functions on one eight-button grid. The HyperJump grid consists of eight frequently-used Windows 95 commands, and the CyberJump grid consists of eight frequently-used Netscape commands. By clicking on the grid button, the command is executed instantly, without having to go to Mouse Properties.

Connecting the ScrollPoint Mouse:
Note: For information on how to get help, technical support, and warranty service, see the Appendices at the end of this document.

1. If you are using the ScrollPoint Mouse with a laptop computer which has an onboard pointing device, or if you are using a keyboard with an onboard tracking device, you must disable that device before installing and using the ScrollPoint Mouse. When you setup and configure your ScrollPoint Mouse, you can use the Device screen in Mouse Properties to choose between the ScrollPoint Mouse and any other pointing device.
2. Make sure your computer is turned off.
3. Connect the mouse cable to your computer's mouse port.
4. Turn on your computer.

Installing the MouseWare Software:
Note: If you are using the OSR2.x version of Windows 95, use the Update Device Driver Wizard to install the driver.

1. Insert the enclosed diskette into the diskette drive.
2. Click on the START button.
3. Move the arrow to RUN and click to select it.
4. In the command line that appears on your screen, type: A:\setup.exe (where A:\ represents the drive letter of the floppy drive.)
5. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
6. Upon completion of the setup program, Windows 95 will automatically restart.
7. When prompted, select YES to configure your new mouse.
8. The Mouse Setup Wizard will guide you through the setup of the mouse. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. Continue to the next section for instructions for configuring the mouse

Configuring the ScrollPoint Mouse:
The ScrollPoint Mouse software, MouseWare includes features for making button assignments, controlling cursor movement, and setting up the ScrollPoint Mouse.

Quick Setup - resets the settings to the defaults:
The mouse properties are reset to the factory recommend defaults. You can also select to have the icon displayed in the task bar.

Pointers - selects a pointer shape:
You can select either white or black cursors, in small, medium and large. Windows 95 with the MicroSoft Plus! add-on has a wide variety of icons, many of them animated. Contact MicroSoft for additional information on MicroSoft Plus.

To change the icons, select one and then click on the Browse button. Choose from the selection of alternate icons displayed, then click on the Open button.

Buttons - makes button assignments:
Displays a list of functions, including HyperJump and CyberJump which you can assign to each mouse button and/or to the mouse stick. You can also modify your double-clicking speed. The third-button function available on the mouse stick is designed to allow reliability with less accidental activation.

Note: Click the Options button to specify settings for the HyperJump CyberJump an d Universal Scroll features. For instance, you can assign the double-click function to the mouse stick, and reduce the chance that you will double-click accidentally. At the Buttons screen, assign the double-click function to the mouse stick. Select Apply. Move the mouse cursor over the double-click test box. Press and release the mouse stick to activate the double-click function. Either select OK to keep the double-click function, or select another function for the mouse stick.

Motions - modifies cursor movement:
You can change your cursor speed, activate cursor trails or choose SmartMove. If you select SmartMove, your cursor will jump to the highlighted button of each new dialog box.

Orientation - sets the mouse orientation:
The default orientation for the scrolling mouse is vertical, with the buttons at the top. If you need to hold the mouse in a position different from the default, you can use this screen to reset the orientation. Hold the mouse in the new position, then follow the directions on the screen.

Scroller - sets us the mouse stick:
You can choose either Universal mode or Office 97 compatible mode. You may also adjust your scrolling speed. Most
applications will scroll properly using the Normal setting, however some applications may scroll very quickly or very slowly. If this is the case, you ca choose a different scrolling speed. When set to Normal, the scrolling speed will increase with increasing pressure on the mouse stick, up to a preset limit. Experiment with the Slow, Fast, and Screen speed settings to select the scrolling speed that is comfortable for you. Some applications use non-standard scrolling bars and may scroll slowly or not at all.

Devices - adds another mouse:
You can switch between pointing devices, if you have more than one or install a new mouse.

Note: Future modifications of the MouseWare is accessible through the Mouse Control Panel.

Accessing the Mouse Control Panel:
1. Click Start.
2. Move cursor to Settings.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Double-click the Mouse icon.
5. Choose from the available options to configure the ScrollPoint Mouse.

Uninstallation of the ScrollPoint Mouse:
1. Click Start.
2. Move cursor to Settings.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
5. Select MouseWare.
6. Click the Remove button.
7. Click Yes to remove the MouseWare software.
8. Upon completion of the setup program, Windows 95 will automatically restart.
