Aptiva - How to restore MBR and boot files in Windows 95

The Master Boot Record can be restored through any DOS prompt. In order to restore the system files, you must boot the system with an Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD or Windows 95 startup disk.
1. Boot computer with Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD, Recovery diskette, or Windows 95 startup disk. During boot process, you will see a blue IBM logo. Immediately after this screen, you will see a black screen with "Starting Windows 95..." in the top left corner.
2. Go to an A:\> prompt.
If using the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilites CD, press the number 0 when the diagnostics menu appears.
If using the recovery diskette, Answer "N" when asked if you wish to restore the system software.
3. To restore the Master Boot Record: At the A:\> prompt, type "fdisk/mbr" and press "Enter" key. If you return to the A:\ prompt with out any messages, the MBR has been restored.
4. To restore the System files in DOS Mode: At the A:\> prompt, type "sys c:" and press "Enter" key. After a moment you will see a message, "System transferred".
5. Remove Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD or Windows 95 startup disk and reboot computer.
