Aptiva - 2156 - IGN trying to connect using LAN
Applicable to: United States
Problem description:
When installing IBM Global Network as the internet service provider, it sets up internet properties to connect to the internet using a Local Area Network (LAN) instead of using a modem. In turn, this causes any applications that try to auto-connect to the internet (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Norton AntiVirus Live Update, etc), not to be able to connect. It also affects other applications that try to connect to the internet (browsers, online updates, etc.). You must connect manually to access the above applications.
Step by step problem reproduction:
Double Click "IBM Internet Connection."
Setup internet account, enter IDs, passwords, etc. Close.
Launch an application (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Norton AntiVirus Live Update, etc.)
Workaround:
1. Right click on Internet Explorer
2. Choose Properties
3. Open the connection tab and select "connect using modem" and choose IBM Global Network
