IBM THINKPAD 390 COMPATIBILITY
IBM tests a large number of commonly used and available hardware options for compatibility with its ThinkPad systems, using supported operating systems and configurations. In general, the user can expect that most IBM and vendor hardware options designed to run with supported operating systems, Intel-compatible system architectures and supported standard I/O interfaces to be compatible with the ThinkPad system. Some configurations, however, may not be compatible.

IBM does not warrant or support vendor hardware options, nor guarantee compatibility of those products with IBM systems. Refer to the applicable warranty and service terms provided by the respective vendors.

ENHANCED PARALLEL PORT (EPP) & IEEE-1284(ECP) COMPATIBLE

INTEGRATED MODEM
(For US, AP, LA, and CAN only)
Most systems, depending on model, have a modem incorporating 56 Kbps(1) Data and 14.4 Kbps Fax functions.

IBM intends to support the International Telecommunications Union ITU-T V.90 56K standard modem protocol on all models of the ThinkPad 390 system that have an internal programmable modem. Such support is dependent on the ITU ratification planned in September 1998, and is subject to change without notice.

(1) V.90 and other technology modems are designed to receive data at up to 56 Kbps from a compatible service provider, and transmitting data at up to 31.2 Kbps. Public networks currently limit maximum download speeds to about 53 Kbps. Actual speeds depend on many factors and are often less than the maximum possible.

ADVANCED CONFIGURATION AND POWER INTERFACE (ACPI) COMPLIANT
The ThinkPad 390 is ACPI ready. Although ACPI is not installed, the ThinkPad 390 hardware and BIOS support ACPI. While ACPI shows a great deal of promise for the future, numerous problems affect the operation of ACPI on ThinkPad and other notebook systems. Therefore, the ThinkPad 390 comes with Windows 98 running APM mode. When the remaining issues with ACPI are resolved, an upgrade package will be made available on the IBM Web site. The upgrade package will contain operating system updates, device driver updates, and BIOS updates to make ACPI work reliably.
