Aptiva - 2158/2163/2164 Considerations - PC Doctor microphone test record delay and murmur
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
While running the Microphone test under PC Doctor for Windows, there is a 2 second delay on the playback.
Models affected:
2158, 2163, and 2164
How to duplicate:
1. Open PC Doctor for Windows
2. Select Diagnostics.
3. Double click the Microphone Test icon.
4. Click the Record button. Begin speaking in the microphone until the 3 second progress bar is complete.
5. Click the Play button. The playback will not start until the 2 second mark. Thus the user will only hear the first second of the recorded sound.
Root cause:
The original PC Doctor microphone test used 8 bit recording quality to record sound. When using 8 bit recording, the ESS Audio card produces the delay heard at the beginning of the recorded WAV file.
To fix the problem, the microphone test was changed to use 16 bit recording quality.
Workaround:
There is no workaround for this problem. This problem has already been fixed for non-US preloads. The fixed module has been released on Update Connector.
