Note: This document assumes that ServeRAID is the controller used for the install. If you have a Mylex adapter, refer to your users manual for defining the array (pack). Raid logical drive (system drive) sizes still apply.

Follow the Network Operating System (NOS) instructions provided in this document sequentially unless you are instructed differently. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document.

1.0 What you will need
Note: Some hardware may require different diskettes from this list based on your CD-ROM type.

Current ServeRAID Option, Device Driver, Firmware/BIOS update disks instructions for downloading:
a. Go to the URL http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/searchfiles.html The keyword is ServeRAID.
b. Since ServeRAID drivers are updated frequently, download the appropriate latest drivers. (For Mylex controllers, the keyword is Server 704. Refer to the note at the top of this document)

If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with section 3.0. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Run the System Configuration Utility (SCU) diskette to set up the server and ensure that the MP Spec is set to 1.4.

2. Set up a RAID array with an A0 RAID logical drive less than 2GB in size as the boot device and another RAID logical drive (A1) for the remaining freespace. Initialize and Synchronize.

3. Your version of OS/2 may have the ServeRAID driver already on the diskette, however to obtain the correct current version it is suggested that you modify a copy of diskette 1 with the downloaded ServeRAID driver by copying it to the diskette and ensuring the following is in CONFIG.SYS:

BASEDEV=IPSRAID.ADD

4. Complete the OS/2 installation normally, using Network Interface Card (NIC) drivers supplied with the NIC hardware or downloaded from the manufacturer.

Note: OS/2 Fix Pack 32 is required for proper functioning of OS/2 components. (The fixpack is provided with your
ServerGuide CD set, or available as a download from IBM Personal Software Products http://ps.software.ibm.com/).

4.0 Detailed installation instructions
Follow the instructions below in sequence:

4.1 Setting up the BIOS
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

1. Boot to the BIOS upgrade diskette (listed in section 2.0) and flash the system to revision 14 or later.

2. Boot to the RAID BIOS/Firmware upgrade diskette (listed in section 2.0) and flash the controller. (Does not apply to Mylex Adapters.)

4.2 Setting up the hardware
Running the System Configuration Utility (SCU) Diskette on the 704 Server:

1. Boot from the SCU Diskette.

2. Select #1, Execute AMI SCU, then press enter at the logo screen.

3. Select Step #3, Change Configuration Settings.

4. Select System Board. Under MP Spec Version, set to MP Spec V1.4.

5. Press Esc to return to the Main Menu. Select Step #4, Save Configuration.

6. When the save is complete, Select Step #6, Exit. Press Enter at the next screen.

4.3 Configuring the ServeRAID SCSI subsystem
1. Boot to the current ServerRAID Configuration Utiltity Disk.
Note: The Utility, Device Driver, and other diskettes should be at the same revision level as was used to flash the Firmware/BIOS.

2. Select #4, Create/Delete/Copy LogDrive.

3. Select #3, Create Disk Array. Press enter on each RDY drive intended to be in the array to bring it online.

4. Select #4, Define Logical Drive. Select array A and press Enter. Choose the desired RAID level. Do not accept freespace for the size. Enter a size below 2GB. Press any key to do a quick Initialize. Press any key to do a quick Synchronize.

5. Repeat step 4 with the exception of accepting freespace for the second RAID logical drive (A1).

6. It is recommended that you now perform a manual long Initialization and Synchronization from the appropriate menu selection. Otherwise press Esc to exit the utility.

Note: It is recommended that you create a RAID backup diskette per the menu instructions after setting up your array.

Note: If ServeRAID I is installed, autosynchronization is not a feature and manual synchronization is recommended on a weekly basis. Firmware/BIOS flash disk 2.40 or higher is required to activate autosync on ServeRAID II cards. Always use the current levels on all ServeRAID disks and Firmware/BIOS.

4.4 Installing the NOS
1. It is recommended that copies be made of the OS/2 boot diskettes. These can be created from a DOS, Windows NT, Windows 95, or OS/2 machine. Run CDINST from the root of the OS/2 CD-ROM to do this.

2. Your version of OS/2 may have the ServeRAID driver already on the diskette, however to obtain the correct current version, it is suggested that you modify a copy of diskette 1 with the downloaded ServeRAID driver by copying it to the diskette and ensuring the following is in CONFIG.SYS:

BASEDEV=IPSRAID.ADD

3. Boot from the diskettes. Follow on screen instructions until the program prompts for easy or advanced installation.

4. Select advanced. Choose to accept the predefined partition. OS/2 now creates an active primary partition and asks to reboot. Repeat step 3.

5. Choose Advanced again. Accept drive C as the target. OS/2 now prompts to format the partition. HPFS is the recommended file system. File transfer should now begin. Follow on screen directions to transfer files from the CD-ROM. The system will prompt to reboot when this completes.

6. The system will now reboot to the hard drive. Checkdisk is run, then the graphical interface is started. Choose the appropriate options for your desired configuration. Hardware such as video should be successfully autodetected. It is recommended to use NIC drivers supplied with the hardware or downloaded from the manufacturer.

7. For proper operation of OS/2, Fixpack 32 or higher is required. Refer to Appendix A.

Appendix A: Installing OS/2 Fixpack 32
Note: If your ServerGuide does not have a Fixpack CD or you have no ServerGuide, call 1-800-426-7282 for an upgrade (proof of IBM server purchase required). Otherwise, refer to IBM Personal Software Products' web site at http://ps.software.ibm.com to download the latest fixpacks (follow Personal Software Products' instructions for installing these packages).

1. Insert the ServerGuide CD labeled Fixpack in the CD-ROM. Open an OS/2 command prompt and change into the \OS/2 directory. Run fixpinst.

2. Choose the appropriate language by number and press Enter.

3. A graphical window appears. Click OK. The system is now inspected.

4. Ensure all serviceable components are highlighted. An Archive path needs to be entered to back up existing files for each component. Each component line requires its own entered archive directory.

Note: The graphical upgrade program does not create these directories. It is looking for them to already be on the hard drive. Open a command prompt and create them using the MKDIR command. Example: MKDIR C:\Archive\Multimedia for the multimedia component - when the directory is created, enter C:\Archive\Multimedia in the archive path in the graphical program. Now it will accept the directory and continue when Service is clicked.

5. Follow the on screen directions. Instruct the program to overwrite (continue) for any file name or driver it questions. After file copy is complete, shut down OS/2 and reboot. After boot, the system unlocks locked files. The fixpack installation is now complete.
