Aptiva - No dial tone with Aptiva Communication Center

If you are not receiving a dial tone with Aptiva Communication Center, check the following:

1. You must using a dongle (phone line splitter with one foot of phone cable attached). You should check to see which side of the splitter you have the cable plugged into.
If you still are not sure, check the rear of the system.

2. Is the phone and the line from the phone jack in the wall plugged into a small square plastic piece and does it have a line running to the rear of the PC?

3. If the answer is yes check the small grey plastic cube (dongle) for the following items:
a. No pictures on the dongle/splitter (should be small picture of phone and PC)
b. 6 wires on end which plugs into Mwave card instead of 4
c. 2 wires on one side of splitter, 4 on other side.

If the dongle/splitter meets the above criteria, discard and replace it with a new one. Call the PC Helpcenter at 1-800-772-2227 if you need further information on replacement.

We have also identified an issue where the Mwave modem may not be able to identify if the phone line has opened the line for it. This is the nature of some phone systems throughout the
country. Below are two things you can do that will help fix this problem you may be having.

1.) Exit or close the Comm Center

2.) Go to Windows Explorer (file manager/system) and click on/open the Phoenix folder.

3.) Find the 'tam.ini' file. Make sure you have chosen 'view' and 'details' so that you can identify the TAM.INI file. The extension does not show but the file you want is the
'configuration settings'

4.) Open, double click on file name.

5.) Look for/locate line that reads: Fax Board Mwave 'Wait For Dialtone=1'

6.) Change the 1 to 0 (Do Not Wait).

7.) Save file.

8.) Go to Control Panel, select 'Modems'.

9.) Click on 'Properties', then the 'Connection' tab.

10.) Click to remove the check mark on 'Wait for dial tone before dialing'. Click on OK. Click on Close.

11.) Restart CommCenter, try sending fax.

This should correct any problems that result in no dial tone within Aptiva Communication Center.
