Aptiva - Do I have to set up my printer in all of my Windows applications?

Windows controls the printer setup for all your applications. Therefore, you will have to make sure that your printer is configured correctly in Windows. To configure your printer, do the following:

From Windows, select MAIN group.
Choose the CONTROL PANEL.
Select PRINTERS.
In the PRINTERS box, highlight the appropriate printer.

Here, you need to verify that the printer is on LPT1, for Windows 3.0 verify that it is "ACTIVE", and for Windows 3.1 verify that you have selected the appropriate "Default Printer". If these conditions are not satisfied, you will need to make changes.

For Windows 3.0, highlight the appropriate printer, click on the ACTIVE icon to activate the printer. This will change the printer status from INACTIVE to ACTIVE. If the printer is not shown on LPT1, select CONFIGURE. Under CONFIGURE, you can highlight LPT1 as your printer port.

In Windows 3.1, from the Installed Printers list, select the printer you want to use as the default printer. Then, choose the Set As Default Printer button. When all settings are correct, press OK (or Close) until you have exited the CONTROL PANEL. Now, your printer should be set-up properly from within the Microsoft Windows program.
