PS/2 - System hangs when using OS/2 to format a second hard disk

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
During the OS/2 2.1 format of a second hard disk installed in a 9556 or 9557, the second hard disk seems to be formatting but never completes. The system appears to hang.

Problem Isolation Aids:
A CD-ROM drive is installed in or attached to the 9556 or 9557.

Fix:
Until the permanent fix is provided, either of the following work-arounds may be utilized:
1. Pre-format the OS/2 partition on the second hard disk using DOS before installing OS/2 version 2.1.
2. REM out device driver IBM2M57.ADD in CONFIG.SYS.

Note:
1. Use work-around #1 if you have a CD-ROM. This device driver is required for CD-ROM drives shipped with multimedia machines. After completion of the format on the hard disk, the device driver may be reactivated in CONFIG.SYS.
2. This problem will be fixed with the next refresh of OS/2.
