TP 600 - Other Considerations

Applicable to: World-Wide

Other Considerations
o If the system is suspended during the following operations, unpredictable results may occur upon resume:
* Audio record or playback
* Video record or playback
* Playback of MPEG file, AVI file, video CD, CD-i
* communications using the internal modem or a PC-Card
*DOS games
These programs should be stopped before entering suspend or hibernate modes.

o With AC power, ThinkPad 600 cannot enter suspend mode if an IBM communication PC card is installed. A modem PC card will not prevent suspend mode. ThinkPad 600 cannot enter hibernation mode under AC power if either an IBM communication PC card or a modem PC card is installed.

o CardBus cards do not support plug/unplug operations during suspend mode in Windows 95 and Windows 3.1.

o PC card point enablers may write directly to the hardware, bypassing Socket and Card Services. Writing directly to the hardware may cause problems that cannot be anticipated. Also, point enablers may interfere with client device drivers that do communicate with Socket and Card Services. In general the use of point enablers is not recommended. If they must be used, testing in the specific environment is recommended.

o Following Cards are not supported.
* Adaptec APA-1480/A SlimSCSI CardBus
* Melco IFC-UC CardBus UltraSCSI Adapter (Adaptec "re-label")
* Noteworthy (Toshiba) Video Conferencing CardBus Card (Intel Vorlon silicon)
* Ositech 10/100 BaseTX Fast Ethernet CardBus Trumpcard 7 of Spades (SMC silicon)
* SMC 8032 CB Ethernet Adapter
* Ositech 10/100 Ethernet/56k Combo CardBus Adapter (SMC silicon)
* Madge Token Ring CardBus

o The NetFinity System Information Service does not recognize IBM EtherJet PC Card.

o LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) cannot be installed if NetFinity has already been installed. NetFinity and LDCM may conflict with each other.

o After installing LDCM, its related programs are always running in the background. If you experience installation failure of other application programs, try uninstalling LDCM.

o After installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, your system may not boot if a network adapter card is not present. The possible cause is RPCSS Page Fault in OLE32 when No Network Support Installed. To solve this problem, install DCOM95 version 1.1 (build level 1718). This is available at Web site: http://www.microsoft.com.

o LDCM may have an application exception (divided by 0) on LDISCN32.EXE at system initialization after plugging an PC Card HDD.

o IRQ sharing between DSP and Modem is supported under Windows 95 only.

o Certain PCI cards, PnP ISA cards, and PCMCIA cards installed in a SelectaDock I/II/III docking station may cause Hot and Warm docking and undocking in Windows 95 not to be supported.

o PC cards in SelectaDock I/II/III are not recognized after warm docking.

o (Japan only) "SDLC/SDLC modem PCMCIA Card" with PCOM Version 4.2 on Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 are not supported on the slot both of the system and the docking station when the system is docked to SelectaDock 1 and 2. These cards are supported with SelectaDock III and SelectaDock PC Card Enabler. SDLC/SDLC modem PCMCIA card is not supported on Windows NT. If this happens in Windows NT, remove SystemSoft driver.
