Aptiva - Voice Navigation Problems
Applicable to: United States
If you are getting a message like "the device is in use by another application" when you try to start Voice Manager,
you may be having a configuration problem. Close Voice Manager. Make sure that there are no other applications open
on the Taskbar. Go to Aptiva Entertainment, then Music Center, then AudioStation. Make sure the 'Mic' input button is lit.
Change the input slider to about halfway, then click on the 'Mic' button again. Close AudioStation and start Voice
Manager again. The error should not reoccur.
If the microphone is not recognized by voice control and all other settings are at default, check the following:
1. Goto mwave.ini file in the windows directory. This can be accomplished in 2 ways; goto 'windows explorer'
(START>PROGRAMS>WINDOWS EXPLORER) and locate file in windows directory/folder or START>RUN
and type in mwave.ini in the box and press enter.
2. Near the bottom of the file, there are 2 lines that can be increased to correct problem.
3. First line starts with "{rmicgain=}", set this number to a higher value, max. is 600.
4. The next line begins with {amicgain=}, set this to a higher setting, again max. is 600.
5. Select "file" and "save".
6. This should correct problem.
General Tips:
1.) Make sure the microphone is plugged into the Mwave correctly.
2.) Make sure you use the Voice Manager icon in the Aptiva Productivity Window.
(So microphone settings will be set up.)
3.) Before starting VTC, open AudioStation and make sure that the mic button is on, on both the
'Play' and 'Record' sides.
4.) Speak normally, with the mic about 24 inches from your mouth. Speaking too closely,
or too loud will result in a voice error
5.) If poor recognition is happening, adjust settings for Mic input by using the Master control
slider on the 'Record' side in AudioStation.
6.) Turn down speaker volume to reduce feedback.
7.) Emphasize the first syllable of each word.
8.) Say "Cancel" if you get stuck.
9.) You can monitor the Voice Pilot Icon at the bottom of the screen to monitor mic input.
