Aptiva - 2140/2142 Non-Buffered DIMMs

Applicable to: World-Wide

Sword Planar

System Memory:
The DRAM controller uses a 64-bit wide DRAM data bus interface. The memory controller supports Hidden Refresh for increase CPU bandwidth, Posted Write to DRAM improves the write cycle timing relative to the CPU and allows the core
chipset to perform an independent write burst to DRAM without holding the CPU.

The memory controller supports, EDO and Synchronous type DRAM's. The controller can automatically detect what type of memory in which bank and set DRAM timing accordingly. In other words, the system supports coexistence of more than one type of memory and each will run at its respective speed automatically set by the controller. For Sword, only 3.3v SDRAM DIMM's will be supported. The DIMM connectors are keyed for unbuffered 3.3v DIMM's.

Spear Planar

System Memory:
Memory on the planar can be grouped into three types:
- System DRAM
- L2 Cache
- BIOS ROM

System DRAM:
- Three 3.3V, 168-pin, Gold DIMMs with support for 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB configurations.
- Synchronous DRAM
- 384MB maximum system memory.
- SDRAM memory size is automatically detected and configured.
- Auto-configure memory -- no jumpers required to change memory configurations.
- Only SDRAMs following the JEDEC standard with EEPROMs will be properly detected
- DIMM connectors are keyed for unbuffered DIMM's.

L2 Cache:
-On the Spear planar, L2 cache is included as part of the Klamath processor. It is 512KB and runs at 1/2 the CPU clock. It is write-back pipe-lined burst.

BIOS ROM:
- A socketed, 256kx8, 150ns, DIP 5V Flash EPROM is interfaced to the ISA bus for the BIOS. Flash write-protection is controlled through a unlocking sequence.
