IBM PC - How to use a hard disk partition larger than 2.0 GB in Windows 95
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
A hard drive larger than 2GB is purchased and setup under Windows 95 but does not operate correctly.
Solution:
File Allocation Table - 32 (FAT32) is required for hard drive partitions larger than 2GB.
FAT32 is available under Windows 95 OSR2 (4.00.950B) and higher . Machines with preloaded versions of Windows 95 older than OSR2 can not legally be upgraded to OSR2, therefore, one must partition hard drives larger than 2GB into smaller partitions.
Some models may not have FAT32 functioning on the machine, however, the user may install this file allocation table by re-FDISKing the machine, and then reformatting using FAT32.
