PC Server 310/315/325/330 - SCSI termination on Non Hot-swap models

Applicable to: World-Wide

If the SCSI bus is improperly terminated, poor signal quality can cause intermittent errors reading from or writing to SCSI devices (Hard drive, CD-ROM, Tape, etc.) on the bus.

The following open bay, non-Hot-Swap PC Server models are manufactured with an 8X CD-ROM FRU p/n73H2601 which does not provide "TERMINATION" as indicated on the CD-ROM label:

PC Server 310 - 8639-0E0/0E4/0E5
PC Server 315 - 8638-KJ0/PJ0/PS0/PSV
PC Server 325 - 8639-EJ0/EM0/ES0/JJ0/JS0/RS0/TS0
PC Server 330 - 8640-ES0

For proper system operation of these open bay, non-Hot-Swap models, terminate the SCSI bus as follows:
Install another SCSI device that can provide active termination.
-OR-
Install the active terminator Option p/n94G7587. The Option contains an 8-bit in-line active terminator FRU p/n61G2448 for use on narrow SCSI cables and a 16-bit active terminator FRU p/n92F0322 for use on wide SCSI cables.

Refer to the User's Guide if additional information is needed.
