TP 600E,770X/Z - Error code 188 or 189 during system boot

Symptom:
When the system is powered on, error 188 or 189 is displayed on the screen.
Configuration:
ThinkPad 770X, 770Z, 600E.
Solution:
Replace the system board.
Additional information:
The error is BAD EEPROM CRC #1 and occurs when an incorrect checksum of the EEPROM is received. These codes are not yet included in the HMM.
