Aptiva - Installing Myst on Aptivas

Applicable to: United States

Myst may lock up on some Aptiva computers if the Smart Energy System is enabled. To avoid the problem, please follow these instructions for Myst Installation:

First: Disable APM BIOS

a. Turn on system.
b. When you see the IBM logo press the F1 key. This should bring you to the Configuration Utility screen.
c. Page down to page 3 of 4.
d. Change APM BIOS to DISABLE. This is the first line on page 3 of 4. Use left or right arrow key to make change.
e. When complete press ESC key.
f. Select YES to save changes. System will reboot automatically.

Second: Enable Permanent Swap File

a. In Program Manager within Main Group.
b. Double click on Control Panel.
c. Double click on 386 Enhanced.
d. Click on Virtual Memory.
e. Click on Change.
f. Click on arrow button to right of Type.
g. Click on Permanent.
h. Click on OK to close Virtual Memory.
i. Click on OK to close 386 Enhanced.
j. Close Control Panel.
k. Click on Reboot Windows for changes to take effect.

Third: Myst Installation

a. Follow instructions in Myst booklet.
