Aptiva - No mouse when disabling the prompt for power on password
Applicable to: World-Wide
US Only
Problem:
On page 47 of the Hardware Handbook, it states that you can set a power on password and then turn the prompt off for displaying it. When you turn the prompt off the operating system starts up, but locks the keyboard and mouse until the user types in thier password. When testing this, the following results take place: Turn the prompt off, start us the operating system, when you type your password in to unlock the keyboard and mouse, it unlocks the keyboard, but the mouse is disabled. The user gets a message stating 'Win95 didn't detect a mouse and you may install a serial mouse at this time'. If you type your password in and press enter and then press enter again to bypass the error message the mouse works, but if you get the error message and press alt-d to disable that error message from coming back up, the next time you do a cold boot, the mouse will not work.
Solution:
The head of the BIOS development team was contacted, and they are aware that this occurs with 2134, 2144, 2159, and 2168 machines. He states that it is working as it was designed.
