IBM PC300GL/PC300PL (Type 6862, 6892) - Conflicting Resource Error in BIOS with Windows 95

SYMPTOM:
An error message "Conflicting Resource Error" appears in ISA Legacy Resources (at I/O ports and IRQ) in the BIOS setup screen after Windows 95 has been installed. This error does not occur with the factory preloaded Operating System.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
Windows 95 has been installed on the machine, for the first time, or after having removed the factory preloaded Operating System.

Below is an example of the error:

  1. Boot the Windows 95 operating system, then shutdown and power off the machine.
  2. Power on the machine, and press F1 key to go to BIOS setup screen. You will see the below conflict message.

The preloaded software has been removed and Windows 95 has been installed. No additional drivers or INF files are installed.

RESOLUTION:
The conflicts in "ISA Legacy Resources" can be cleared by toggling the entries marked with an asterisk (*), with the left and right arrow keys. Conflicts may also be cleared by loading factory defaults from the main menu of the BIOS setup screen.

EXPLANATION:
Windows 95 shrink-wrap versions do not support the Intel 82371xB chipset used in these systems.

To update Windows 95 to support Intel 82371xB, certain INF files must be updated:
