TP 760XD/XL,765D/L - Battery Will Not Charge

SYMPTOMS:
1. The Main Battery in the ThinkPad 760XD,XL and 765D,L is not recognized.
a. No Battery icon or %Charge appears on the Keyboard LCD indicator panel when AC Power is connected.
b. The Battery appears as dotted lines in the ThinkPad Fuel Gauge program.

2. The Main Battery will not charge.

3. The following error message may appear upon Windows 95 boot, even though a battery is already installed:
"Warning: Please install a battery pack to ensure proper system operation."

Otherwise, the ThinkPad functions normally when the AC Adapter is connected.

The symptoms occur because the battery is in a deep discharge state. The symptoms may occur if the battery is in the ThinkPad and the AC adapter is not connected for more than 90 days. Since these ThinkPads are shipped with the main battery installed, these conditions sometimes occur on new ThinkPads due to shipping and warehousing time.

CONFIGURATION:
760XD, 760XL, 765D, and 765L with battery installed.

SOLUTION:
1. With the battery installed in the ThinkPad, connect the AC Adapter and allow it to charge for 8 hrs. Once the battery has recovered and is recognized by the ThinkPad, it will operate normally.

2. If the battery fails to be recognized and to fully charge within 8 hrs, replace the main battery with FRU 29H9232.
