PC Server 300 - EISA 16/4 Busmaster Token Ring Card

Applicable to: EMEA

Symptom:
The old IBM EISA 16/4 Token Ring card, p/n 63F0412, is no longer available. It is replaced by a reworked card, p/n 1051712. The reworked card has 14 wire adds and a small (1 inch square) daughter board. This card fixes all known problems that the original card had with higher speed machines (a few 66 MHz 486 machines and many Pentium machines). The reworked card fixes 5 separate timing problems.

Problem Isolation Aids:
The known failures with the old card included:

The Pentium problem could occur on any machine running a split bus (ie. both PCI local bus and EISA bus together).

Fix:
There will be slightly modified drivers shipped with the new cards. The new drivers have a reduced internal card burst size (this has nothing to do with EISA burst mode). Because these cards do not support EISA burst mode transmission, they will not have good performance in any of the split bus (combined EISA and PCI bus) machines. Many of the Pentium machines, including IBM's Pentium 8640, and the Dell Omniplex are split bus. We recommend not using more than one of our cards in such systems.
