Microphone Usage and User Enrollment
If your system is equipped with an internal monitor microphone you can use it with VoiceType command and control applications such as Home Director. For dictation applications such as Simply Speaking, it is recommended that you use a noise-canceling external microphone.
Important: For best speech recognition, it is recommended that you use the Enrollment program to teach VoiceType your individual speech patterns. If you have enrolled using the internal monitor microphone, and then you switch to using an external microphone, you must create a new enrollment for the external microphone. You must have a separate enrollment for each type of microphone; otherwise, you will encounter significant recognition problems.
Important: Before running the Microphone Setup or Enrollment, be sure to close the Microsoft Windows 95 Volume Control User Interface, if it is currently open. Otherwise, the system may stop responding. If this problem is encountered, take the following actions:
1. Press Alt-Ctrl-Del
2. Double-Click "Engine" in the Task List, to end the task
3. Close the Windows 95 Volume Control User Interface, and Continue
To create a new enrollment:
1. From the Windows 95 desktop, click Start, Programs, IBM VoiceType, Enrollment.
2. On the Enrollment screen, select your user ID, then click Enroll.
3. When the list of enrollments appears, click New, and type the description of your new enrollment (for example, you might want to call it "Andrea enrollment").
4. It is highly recommended that you complete the Enrollment process to ensure the best possible recognition. Click Start to continue with Enrollment.
If you prefer to use an external microphone, we recommend one from Andrea Electronics. The models that have been shown to produce the best recognition are the NC-80 and the ANC-500. If you wish to purchase a microphone, contact Andrea Electronics at one of the following numbers:
