IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6898) - 4X256MB DIMMS lock the system at POST

Symptom:
After installing four 256MB DIMMs, the system locks up after completing POST.
Problem isolation aids:
The F1 Setup utility will show 1024 MB Extended Memory installed under "System Summary." The same condition will also exist if 3x256, or 768MB of memory is installed in the system.
FIX:
None. The maximum amount of memory supported in the IBM IntelliStation M-Pro, machine type 6898, is 512MB.
