IBM PC300PL - Matrox driver installation causes DirectX error message

SYMPTOM:
During installation of the Matrox video drivers, MGA Diagnostics returns the following, or similar error message:

"Warning: Microsoft Direct X interface not installed. Install Direct X from the Matrox CD-ROM. For more information, see the installation guide."

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
The error is caused by the absence of Direct Draw support in Windows 95 OSR1. If the user has installed Windows 95 OSR1, this tip applies.

FIX:
Install Direct Draw support for Windows 95.

Direct Draw can be downloaded from Microsoft at the following internet address or from the Microsoft BBS.
