TP 380XD/Z,385XD,560Z - Bundled 56K PC Card modem is missing driver diskette

Applicable to: Canada, United States

SYMPTOM:
IBM includes the driver with the Windows 98 preload. If the system is formatted and reinstalled WITHOUT using the recovery CD, you will need to download the modem driver listed below.

Windows NT 4.0 is unable to detect the proper modem, it will only find a Standard modem.

CONFIGURATION:
This occurs on the ThinkPad 380XD, 380Z, 385XD, 560Z which have the IBM 56K PC Card modem/Cellular Capable(FRU number: 02K4249) bundled with it.

NOTE: Not all systems have the 56K modem bundled with it.

SOLUTION:
The modem shipped without a driver diskette. Download the driver file, 56KCELL.EXE, from the IBM PSG Help Center Web site and create the driver diskette.

Windows NT installation instructions:
+ Insert the 56K PC Card in the machine.
+ Power on the system, and boot to Windows NT. Make sure you log on as ADMINISTRATOR.
+ Insert the 56K driver diskette into the floppy drive.
+ Click on START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL, then open the Modems Icon.
+ Once Windows NT has detected the Standard Modem, click on "Change..." and "Have disk...", change source to A:\.

Windows 95/98 installation instructions:
+ Boot the system to Windows 95
+ Insert the 56K driver diskette into the floppy drive.
+ Click on START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL, then open the Modems Icon.
+ Click on Add Modems and select PCMCIA Modems
+ Insert the 56K PC Card when prompted by Windows.
+ If prompted, change source to A:\

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
