TP General - CD not suspending with timer

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
ThinkPad Systems with CD not suspending by timer

Configuration:
The attached problem has been observed with earlier ThinkPads and as the note indicates is also applicable to newer model ThinkPads with a CD-ROM drive.

Solution:
Windows 95/98 CD-ROM driver accesses the CD-ROM device every three seconds to detect CD-ROM insertion automatically. This prevents the ThinkPad from suspending by timer.

To allow the computer to suspend via the timer, the auto-insert notification must be disable. To disable it, follow the procedures outlined below.

  1. Click on My Computer
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click System
  4. Click on Device Manager tab
  5. Click the + mark on CD-ROM
  6. Double click TEAC CD-44E
  7. Click on Setting tab
  8. Select Auto insert notification to remove the check mark
