IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889) - Intel Ethernet adapter mislabeled under ProSET diagnostics
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
After starting Intel ProSet Diagnostics in Control Panel, the FastEthernet Pro PCI adapter is mislabeled as an Intel 82557 adapter instead of being correctly labeled as an Intel 82558 adapter.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to the IBM IntelliStation M Pro Series 6889 systems equipped with the Intel 82558 10/100 onboard Ethernet adapter and preloaded with Windows NT 4.0.
FIX:
The mislabeled adapter entry is considered to be a "cosmetic" flaw in the version 1.4 Ethernet driver. This mislabeling does not affect the performance or functionality of the adapter. This flaw will be corrected in the next release of the Ethernet driver for Windows NT.
The updated driver may be found by searching on "Q37T" via the Internet from the IBM Personal Systems Group Computer File Library at the following URL:
www.us.pc.ibm.com/files.html
The updated driver may also be downloaded, when available, from the IBM BBS by dialing 919-517-0001.
Windows NT is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
