Aptiva - How to determine if there are partitions greater than 2GB on hard drive

Applicable to: World-Wide

1. To View Partition Information: Go to a DOS prompt:
- Click on "Start", "Programs", "MS DOS Prompt", or:
- Click on "Start", "Shut Down", "Restart computer in MS DOS mode." Click "Yes", or:
- Boot with Recovery disk and press 'N' to recover software, or:
- On computers preloaded with OS/2, boot from recovery diskettes. From the recovery menu select the option "Go to OS/2 Command Prompt": and put the 3rd recovery disk in the floppy disk drive.
- Boot with Diagnostic CD and at menu, press "0" (zero).

2. At the command prompt, type "fdisk" and press "Enter" key.

Windows 95
- If you receive an option to enable large disk support, the default answer is "N" for no. Press "Enter" key to go to the "FDISK Options" Screen. Earlier models do not offer this option. Go to next step.
- At the FDISK Options Screen, enter choice "4" and press "Enter" key. This will bring you to the "Display Partition Information" screen. Under the "Partition" column you will find drive letters. On each line designated by a drive letter, check the column labeled "Mbytes." If this number is greater than 2,000, you have a partition greater than 2GB.
- If your system has an EXT DOS partition, press "Y" and "Enter" key to "Display Logical DOS Drive Information." Again check Mbyte size for partitions designated by drive letters. If this number is greater than 2,000, you have a partition greater than 2GB.

- To leave Fdisk, press "Esc" until you return to an MS DOS prompt.

OS/2

- On the FDISK menu, under the "Partition Name" column you will find drive names. On each line designated by a drive name, check the column labeled "MBytes." If this number is greater than 2,000, you have a partition greater than 2GB.
