Servers - Procedure for back-leveling ServeRAID Firmware/BIOS

Applicable to: World-Wide

Source: RETAIN tip H165466

Abstract:
Procedure for back-leveling ServeRAID Firmware/BIOS.

This procedure is meant for allowing the BIOS/Firmware to be back-leveled for customers that are working towards certifying the new level of BIOS/firmware and need the back-level procedure until the certification completes.

NOTE: IBM does not recommend back-leveling firmware for a long-term basis. IBM recommends that customers run at the latest level firmware.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
- The system is a PC Server, any Type, all models.
- The system is a Netfinity server, any Type, all models.
- The system may be configured with any number of processors.
- The system is configured with any of the following options:

ServeRAID Adapter FRU p/n06H9334 (Option p/n70G8489)
ServeRAID Adapter FRU p/n76H6875 (Option p/n70G8489)
ServeRAID-3H Adapter FRU p/n01K7396 (Option p/n01K7207)
ServeRAID-3L Adapter FRU p/n01K7352 (Option p/n01K7364)

- All Firmware for all ServeRAID Adapters are affected.

FIX:
- Create the appropriate level ServeRAID BIOS/Firmware diskette.

- Delete the following file from the diskette: cphbf.pro

- After this file is deleted, the update utility will simply write over whatever ServeRAID BIOS/Firmware is on the adapter without checking its current level.
