Home and Away Credit Card Adapter - Common problems

Applicable to: World-Wide

1. Check to see if the Universally Administered Address (UAA) is valid. If it does not match what is on the card, it will not be able to connect to the system. Return these cards.

2. MOST OF THE TIME, the Home and Away adapter will not be recognized in SLOT A (top) of ALL the new high-end ThinkPad models with the ZIPANG PCIC controller. These include ThinkPad 755CE, 755CSE, 755 CD, 755CVD, 755CX, and 760. The 755C and 755CS are NOT affected. The PC Co. and Networking Hardware are both investigating the problem. The only solution at this time is to recommend moving the card to SLOT B (bottom).

3. The installation program currently does not recognize the new menu-driven CONFIG.SYS/AUTOEXEC.BAT files. The installation will complete, but the files are all at the bottom, in the common section, or after the :exit. In the CONFIG.SYS, the network drivers need to be moved up to the correct menu selection. In the case of IBM machines, move to the end of the :NORMAL section.

In the case of installing LSP with DLR, the LSP drivers are installed at the end of the CONFIG.SYS. You would next install the Home and Away Adapter. Then, you would install DLR. DLR installs in the DOSLAN directory as expected, but the parameters s=12 c=14 st=12 DO NOT get added to the DXMT0MOD.SYS line. You may add these in manually, then move everything up under the correct menu selection.

In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, the path for the network is not always added to the PATH statement. You need to add this in manually. Also, the call to start the network gets put at the end of the AUTOEXEC.BAT after the :exit. You need to manually move this call under the correct menu selection. BE SURE THAT IT IS BEFORE THE CALL TO START WINDOWS (WIN).
