TP 770/E - Modem function of IBM 56K Ethernet Combo PC Card not working under Windows NT

SYMPTOM:
The ethernet portion of the PC Card works but the modem portion cannot be configured properly.

CONFIGURATION:
ThinkPad 770/E running Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 installed using the IBM 10/100 EtherJet CardBus Adapter with 56K Modem (P/N 08L3167).

SOLUTION:
Follow the procedures outlined below:

Note: It is suggested that the machine have the latest BIOS level and that Service Pack 3 Be loaded for NT 4.0 before starting this installation. It is also suggested that the latest level of the combo card driver be used.

1. Remove CardWorks from the machine by using the uninstall utility.
2. Put the card in the machine
3. Go to Control Panel , an double-click on the Networking icon.
4. Select the Adapters tab and then click on the Add button.
5. Put the PC Card driver diskette into the floppy drive and click on the Have Disk button.
6. Select the IBM 10/100 EtherJet Card Bus Adapter and click OK .
7. When you get the Settings window under Networking change the IRQ from 11 to 9 ( the card will work best using IRQ 9). Under the Modem setting change the I/O port to 0X2f8 ( this will allow use of COM 2 for the modem.) All the other setting in this window can stay at their default. Then click OK .
8. Shut down an reboot the machine.
9. Go to Control Panel and double-click on the Modem Icon.
10. Put a check mark in the box that says Don't detect my modem, select from list . Then click the Next button.
11. Insert the device driver diskette for the Combo card into the floppy drive and click the Have Disk button.
12. Select the IBM CardBus 56K modem and click the Next button. Choose the Select port options and select COM2 and click Next . Then click Finish .

The modem will then finish installing and you will need to reboot the machine you will then have both the modem an the ethernet functions.
