Aptiva - How to disable SMARTDRV
Applicable to: World-Wide
In Windows 95:
1. Click Start -> Programs -> MS-DOS Prompt to open a DOS window.
2. At the DOS prompt type: "cd\" and press Enter.
3. Type: "edit c:\autoexec.bat" and press Enter.
4. Move the cursor to the line "c:\windows\smartdrv.exe" so that the cursor is on the first character of the line (C).
5. Press the "Insert" key, if necessary, to set the cursor to Insert mode (it should be a blinking block instead of the underscore character).
6. Type "REM" (without quotes) and press the Spacebar once to insert a space.
7. The line should now look like this: "REM c:\windows\smartdrv.exe" (without quotes).
8. Press ALT + F to bring up the file menu. Press X to exit. Press Y to save your changes.
In Windows 3.1:
1. Click on the DOS Prompt icon to open a DOS window.
2. At the DOS prompt type: "cd\" and press Enter.
3. Type: "e autoexec.bat" and press Enter (if e does not work, use edit instead).
4. Move the cursor to the line "c:\windows\smartdrv.exe" so that the cursor is on the first character of the line (C).
5. Press the "Insert" key, if necessary, to set the cursor to Insert mode (it should be a blinking block instead of the underscore character).
