IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889) - Non-PNP ISA adapters do not function under Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOM:
After installing a Non Plug-and-Play ISA adapter and restarting Windows NT, the adapter is not recognized, or does not function.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies, but is not limited to, IBM IntelliStation M Pro Series 6889 systems preloaded with Windows NT 4.0.
The error condition will be seen with Non Plug-and-Play ISA adapters that default to, or are fixed to utilize IRQ 9.
FIX:
The error condition can be corrected by one of the following two methods:
1. Reconfigure the adapter to use an interrupt other than IRQ 9.
2. Set IRQ 9 under "ISA Legacy Resources" in BIOS Setup to "Not Available."
