Aptiva - Intermittent 662 POST error

Symptom:
Intermittent 662 error on POST. D/T 2176 Mods. 442, 447, 451 and 454. D/T 2134 Mods. 440 and 445.
Problem Isolation Aids:
Check SMC chip on the system board, markings are as shown:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Chips with 'D' in the first line/first position are suspect.
Fix:
A Flash BIOS update can be applied to REV D SMC devices.
