Disabling on-board Video
Note: Source - IBMPS1 ANSWERS file.
JP17 (IRQ9) must be OPEN (disabled). This is the mfg default.
If the new card follows proper BIOS interface rules, it should work. If problems are encountered try the following:
1. Move JP10 from pins 2-3 to pins 1-2. This disables the video chip.
2. Remove JP1 (some early revisions of the planar may not have this jumper.) to disable MEMCS16.
3. Jumper J2 should be on pins 1-2 (later revisions of this planar may not have this jumper.) Mfg Default.
Display/Monitor
Note: Models E49/R47 have two monitor versions available. One supports 100-240 Volts, has AUTO voltage sensing and supports 2 resolutions not supported by the other display.

To enter the systems CMOS:
1. Power System OFF (must be Cold Boot)
2. Power System ON
3. When an icon appears in the upper right corner of the screen, Press F1 and hold.
4. System Configuration screen will appear.
Note: You may also type CONFIGUR at the DOS prompt.
Backing up Original Software
You will need 13 high density diskettes
1. Open Windows
2. Double-click on the PS/1 Tools icon
3. Double-click on the PS/1 Fitness icon
4. Double-click on the Recovery Diskette icon
5. Follow on-screen instructions
6. Double-click on the Backup icon
7. Follow on-screen instructions
Note: The RECOVERY directory may be deleted once backup has been run. To be safe, the customer should first try a Restore, to make sure all the disks are OK.
Recovery Directory
All 2133 machines come pre-loaded with a RECOVERY directory. This directory contains ZIP files which hold compressed copies of all the original pre-load software.
If you have lost or corrupted any of his original files you can restore a specific file as follows:
At a DOS prompt, type the following:
cd \RECOVERY
pkunzip *.zip -o -d c:\ dirname\filename.ext
Note: Be sure to leave a space after the c:\
CAUTION: If you are going to restore Window System files PLEASE take note that all customisation will be lost and that you will need to re-install any Window software that has been added to the system as well as rebuild icons for any of the DOS programs.
Restoring Original Software
Warning: If you have upgraded to MS-DOS 6.2, manually restore the software using PKUNZIP, DO NOT restore the DOS files unless the HD has been re-formatted; in which case you may proceed as below and then re-install MS-DOS 6.2
1. Insert the Recovery Disk in drive A: and re-boot
2. Select Restore Original Software
Note: The system will ask from where the Restore should occur; if the \RECOVERY directory has been deleted from the Hard Drive, say NO to the first prompt and YES to the second.
Bypassing PS/1 Logo
To remove the PS/1 Logo from the normal boot procedure; edit AUTOEXEC.BAT and REM out c:/ps1tools/hwcheck
The HWCHECK program runs routines that analyse the hardware on your system and writes the results to a data file. The data file is used by the System Information program in PS/1 Fitness. The only impact on removing it is that the System Information will not remain current when you add or remove hardware.
Changing the display resolution in Windows
Normally, display resolution can be changed by:
1. Opening the PS/1 Tools Window
2. Double-clicking on the PS/1 Fitness Icon
3. Double-clicking on the Display Selection Icon
4. Selecting the Resolution and number of colours
5. Restarting Windows
In some cases the resolution you may want to use is not listed under available resolutions or it is 'grayed' out. If this is the case, check the C:\VIDEO directory. This directory contains the CLMODE utility and at least one INF file i.e. GD5424.INF, GD5428.INF or OEMSETUP.INF.
If no OEMSETUP.INF file appears, rename the GD542x.INF file which matches the video chip on the system to OEMSETUP.INF.
e.g. ren gd5424.inf oemsetup.inf
You may now use Windows Setup to change the video driver:
1. Open Main Window
2. Double-click on Windows Setup Icon
3. Click on Options
4. Click on Change System Settings
5. Click on the down-arrow beside the Display box
6. Scroll or page-down and select "Other Display" (Requires disk from OEM)
7. Click OK
8. Delete the A:\ and enter C:\VIDEO
9. Click OK
10. Select the desired resolution
11. Click OK
12. Restart Windows when requested
If Windows does not restart properly or the video is unreadable, go to the DOS prompt, change to Windows directory and type SETUP. You will need to select another resolution following basically the same steps as outlined above i.e. Select Display, Other Display, and enter C:\VIDEO when asked to insert a disk.
