Aptiva - Dial-Up Networking does not save password

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom: Dial-Up Networking is not saving your password

This problem can be caused by any of the following situations:

Password caching is disabled.
One or more of the files associated with Dial-Up Networking is missing or damaged.
Your password list (.pwl) file is damaged.
The Rna.pwl file (if it exists) is damaged.

Solution:

A. Find and delete all of the .pwl files:

1. Click Start | Find | Files or Folders
2. Type *.pwl and click Find Now
3. Click Edit | Select All
4. Press the Delete key and click Yes to delete these files
5. Shut down and restart

If the problem persists:

B. Uninstall and Reinstall Dial-Up Networking

NOTE: You will need to recreate your dial-up networking icon after this process is complete.
1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
3. Click the tab labeled "Windows Setup"
4. Double-click "Communications"
5. Remove the check from "Dial-Up Networking"
6. Click Apply

7. Shut Down and restart
8. Go back to Add Remove Programs | Windows Setup | Communications and recheck Dial-Up Networking
9. Click Apply
10. Shutdown and restart
11. Recreate your Dial-Up Networking icon

The above solutions will help with all of the above symptoms except Password Caching being disabled. This setting is controlled by the Windows Registry. If your problem persists at this point, you can seek further information at:
