IBM PC730/PC750 - POST errors with Western Digital 540MB hard disk drive
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
PC 700 systems may exhibit intermittent 1762 and 162 POST errors with a Western Digital WD2540 540Mb hardfile installed.
Problem Isolation Aids:
Following the 1762/162 POST errors, the SurePath BIOS Setup utility will show the hardfile as "not installed". A warm reboot usually allows the drive to be recognised and will then show as "installed" in Setup. The drive will function correctly from that point on.
There is no data loss or corruption as a result of this symptom. Advanced diagnostics run without errors.
Fix:
Upgrade the system BIOS to level 62A or higher.
