Aptiva - Testing Mwave dongles correctly
Applicable to: World-Wide
Seldom is there a problem with the Mwave dongle. Many perfectly good dongles are replaced by technicians.
To see if the dongle is the cause for communication problems check the following:
1) Verify that the customer is using an analog phone line.
2) Plug the dongle into the computer. Next, connect a telephone into the side of the dongle that has the picture of the telephone on it. If it works, you have a good dongle.
There are no other tests that need to be done.
Note: Some customers have reported an incorrect dongle being shipped with their computer. The correct part number is 38H6726. The incorrect part can be identified by having the following characteristics:
1- a different part number on the dongle itself
2- NO PICTURES ON THE SPLITTER
3- 6 wires on end which plugs into MWave instead of 4
4- 2 wires on one side of splitter, 4 on other side
If the dongle in question has the above four characteristics throw it out and have it replaced.
