IBM ValuePoint - 5250 adapter drops line when powered off

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
Enhanced 5250 display station emulation adapters P/N30F5384 (the FRU is also P/N30F5384 ), shipped after October 1992, may cause other terminals, or systems, to drop off the communications line when the 6384 ValuePoint system unit is powered 'Off'. The host will then recycle/reset the communication line so that the Logon screen is displayed. The user will be able to Logon again.

Problem Isolation Aids:
Affected 5250 adapters can be identified by P/N92F3190 on a label on the card. Also, the card may be identified by a 12-pin DIP module directly below the DIP switches. No other levels of this card are affected. The potential for failure of an affected card exists only when it is installed in a PS/ValuePoint machine, no other machine is affected.

Note:
P/N92F3190 is a manufacturing part number and not the FRU number.

Fix:
Currently, supply of reworked FRU's P/N64G3956 is low. If you are experiencing the above problem a workaround solution is to swap the newer card in the ValuePoint system with a card from a PS/2 that was installed before October 1992. The new FRU P/N64G3956 has been made available on the parts systems for D/T6384 and is available from Greenock. Country distribution stock of option P/N30F5384 is being withdrawn and reworked to the working level.
