TITLE
IBM PC ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter - Delivers High Levels of Performance and Function

OVERVIEW
Add the IBM ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter to your Netfinity or PC server and boost RAID disk performance to your enterprise database or application network. Significantly improved levels of system throughput can now be achieved with this second generation RAID adapter.

The ServeRAID II adapter contains a more powerful RISC processor, 4MB of extended data output (EDO) cache memory, and an improved local PCI chip-set. This full-length, 32-bit adapter supports 40MB/s Ultra SCSI disk drives and provides three SCSI channels. Each channel supports up to 15 disk drives for a total capacity of 45 disk drives. In addition, the ServeRAID II adapter now has a battery-backup, 8MB cache option available for customers requiring greater performance and data protection.

The ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter provides investment protection to customers already standardized on the current PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter, because logical drive migration (LDM) functions and other administrative GUI utilities are very similar for this new RAID adapter. However, a number of additional functions have been added to help you setup, modify, and monitor your disk array more conveniently and with a higher degree of confidence.

The ServeRAID II adapter now has two .8mm external connectors. These industry standard, Very High Density Connector Interfaces (VHDCI) allow two external cables to be attached directly to the adapter. In addition, a third channel can be routed out the back of the card with a third channel cable option without taking a valuable card slot. This design simplifies installation of external data storage enclosures for customers installing external RAID solutions. In addition, several SCSI cables are being announced to support the ServeRAID II adapter and external attachment of SCSI devices.

The ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter offers outstanding RAID performance, higher levels of control, and the scalability you need to confidently build a reliable foundation for your networked business system.

PRODUCT NAME
ServeRAID II External Cables and Options

PRODUCT SPECIFIC ABSTRACT

Four external SCSI cable options of various lengths are available for attaching external RAID storage enclosures to the ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter. These 16-bit cables have an industry standard, Very High Density Connector Interface (VHDCI) .8mm connector on one end that connects to the external .8mm connector on the ServeRAID II adapter. The other end of the cable has an industry standard, 68-pin connector for attachment of the external SCSI device. The cables include:

o IBM 1M External .8mm SCSI Cable is 1 meter in length.
o IBM 2M External .8mm SCSI Cable is 2 meters in length.
o IBM 3M External .8mm SCSI Cable is 3 meters in length.
o IBM 4.3M External .8mm SCSI Cable is 4.3 meters in length.

Three additional options are available to support ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter installations:
o An IBM Third Channel Cable provides the necessary hardware to route the third SCSI channel of the ServeRAID II adapter out the back of the ServeRAID II adapter without consuming another slot.
o The IBM DASD Status Cable is required when installing the ServeRAID adapter in PC Server 320, 520, and 720 models. This cable provides the necessary interface to control the disk drive status LED in the hot-swap bay when a defunct drive is detected.
o The IBM .8mm to 68-pin SCSI Adapter allows an external cable with a industry standard, 68-pin connector to be attached to a .8mm connector on the ServeRAID II adapter. Up to three of these options can be attached to the ServeRAID II adapter.
