TP General - How to remove PC Cards, ISA Cards and PCI Cards

This document contains information on how to remove PCMCIA/ISA/PCI Cards.

Removing PCMCIA Cards:
1. Remove any covers from the PCMCIA slots. If the cover does not remove easily, the security bar maybe in place. Open either the ThinkPad keyboard or remove the cover from the Dock. Look closely at the slots and if there is a small metal bar pull that straight up and out. Another type of lock is a faceplate that is external to the ThinkPad, remove the spacer that is internal and then slide the outside faceplate towards the front of the ThinkPad and then off.
- SelectaDock 1- make sure the key is in the vertical position.
- SelectaDock 2 - remove the base and make sure the slide switch on the right side is in the farthest away position.
2. Press the eject button next to the PCMCIA Card and it will eject.

Removing ISA/PCI Cards:
- Dock 1 has one ISA slot.
1. Remove the ThinkPad from the dock.
2. Flip the Dock 1 over and remove the four screws from the base cover.
3. Lift the cover off and you will see the ISA slot.
4. Check the card for a retaining screw and if present remove it.
5. Pull the ISA card out horizontally.

- Dock 2 has two ISA slots.
1. Shutdown and power the system off.
2. Turn the Dock around so that you may see the back.
3. On the lower part of the Dock is an access door to the ISA slots. Slide the door to the right and pull off.
4. Check the card for a retaining screw and if present remove it.
5. Pull the card straight out.

- SelectaDock 1 has one shared ISA/PCI slot.
1. Shutdown and power the system off.
2. Turn the Dock around so that you may see the back.
3. Remove the two screws from the top cover that covers the ISA/PCI card.
4. Check the card for a retaining screw and if present remove it.
5. Pull the card straight out.

- SelectaDock 2 has two shared ISA/PCI slots and one half card PCI slot.
1. Shutdown and power the system off.
2. Remove the ThinkPad from the Dock.
3. Pull the Base Model off of the Dock.
4. Remove the rear cover, there is a tab on the right side of the rear cover that you can pull up.
5. Check the card for a retaining screw and if present remove it.
6. Pull the card straight out.
