Hard Drives - Various SCSI Hard Drive questions and answers
Applicable to: World-Wide
Question:
How do I use a Wide UltraSCSI Hard Drive on an older narrow interface card?
Answer:
To use a Wide UltraSCSI Hard Drive (68-pin) on an older narrow interface card (50-pin), use the 50 to 68Pin Converter (Marketing Part number 01K1326, FRU Part number 87G4587). This is a simple converter which attaches on the end of the 68-pin cable, that the Hard Drive should already have, and then to the 50-pin device.
Note: When a 68-pin hard drive is adapted for use on a 50-pin cable, its highest interface data transfer rate is reduced by half to be compatible with the existing cable and SCSI bus adapter.
Question:
What is the maximum size SCSI Hard Drive that can be used in the DOCK II?
Answer:
The maximum size SCSI Hard Drive for the DOCK II is 2.1GB not 4.3GB as stated in some IBM literature/data bases. The 4.3GB Drive draws too much power
and is not recommended for the Dock II. The recommended drives are the 3.25GB IDE Hard Drive (Marketing Part number 75H9918, FRU Part number 75H8976) or the 2.16GB Fast SCSI (Marketing Part number 07H1124, FRU Part number 07H1118) for users looking for the largest drives supported.
Question:
How do I get a SCSI drive to work on a MAC?
Answer:
In order for a SCSI drive to work correctly on a MAC, 3 pins must be jumped in addition to the ID settings. These are:
1. Auto Start
2. Disable Unit Attention
3. Disable Sync Negotiation
