PS/1 - Recovering Specific Files/Dirs From Recovery Dir/CD/disks

Applicable to: World-Wide

Service Information:
It is often necessary to recover just the odd file or directory. for example if MS Works starts causing a lot of GPF's. This can be done by using the recovery disk and recovering all the software which can be time consuming and also result in having to recreate windows icon/groups. However the following command can be used to recover the files/directories you want. For example, if you are recovering the whole of MSWorks from the backup directory (RECOVERY) on the hard drive use :-
PKUNZIP_-O_-D_C:\RECOVERY\*.zip_c:\_MSWORKS\*.*

Explanation:-
PKUNZIP.EXE is the unpacking program.
-O is a parameter that allows you to overwrite existing files.
-D is a parameter that restores the directory structure.
C:\RECOVERY\*.ZIP is the location of the files that are to be recovered from. For CD-ROM this is X:\RECOVERY\UK\*.ZIP where X is the drive letter of your CD-ROM.
C:\ is the starting point for where files are to be recovered to.
MSWORKS\*.* is the name of the files to be recovered (*.* is a wild card representing all files. So in this case it means all files in the MSWorks
Note:
To avoid disaster when using this command pay special attention to the spaces.
