OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:
ThinkPad computers are designed, built, and tested for high quality and reliability. When used properly in standard business environments, a ThinkPad system should be a reliable computing asset for many years. However, harsh environments and abuse can damage ThinkPads since they are not intended to withstand extreme temperatures, dust, shock, or other severe physical environments. ThinkPad systems should not be used in unsuitable environments. For example, a ThinkPad system should not be used in non-stationary environments, such as in-vehicle installations, without additional casing or shock-dissipation. IBM warrants that the ThinkPad will conform to its Official Published Specifications when used in a suitable physical operating environment.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- While you can upgrade the HDD, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system.
- The system must be either in hibernated or "power-off" mode when changing the battery.
- Screen expansion (Fn+F8) does not cover the full display screen leaving a small black border around the edge of the display.
- If the system is suspended or hibernated while playing Active Movie II in Windows 95 or Windows 98, the subsequent resume operation can cause the system to hang.
- If the system is suspended or hibernated while playing audio in Windows 95 or Windows 98,the subsequest resume operation can cause the system to hang or the audio may stutter.
- PC card modems in SelectaBase PC Card Enabler do not support Ring Indicator (RI) resume. This limitation is not applicable to CardBus and the internal modem in the system.
- 56 Kbps modem support is available only on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0. The 56K modems are designed to receive data at up to 56 Kbps from a 56K-compatible service provider (using the same protocol), and transmitting data at up to 33.6 Kbps. Public networks currently limit maximum download speeds to approximately 53 Kbps. Actual speeds depends on many factors and are often less than the maximum possible.
- SelectaDock I and II do not support CardBus card when docked to the ThinkPad 600.
- UltraSlim Bay(R) options for the ThinkPad 600 do not fit in SelectaDock I/II/III.
- With AC power, ThinkPad 600 cannot enter suspend mode if an IBM communications PC card is installed. A modem PC card does not prevent suspend mode.
- CardBus does not support plug/unplug operation during suspend mode in Windows 95 or Windows 98 and Windows 3.1.
- The following cards are not supported:
- Adaptec APA-1480/A SlimSCSI CardBus
- Melco IFC-UC CardBus UltraSCSI Adapter (Adaptec "re-label")
- Noteworthy (Toshiba) Video Conferencing CardBus Card (Intel Vorlon silicon)
- Ositech 10/100 BaseTX Fast Ethernet CardBus Trumpcard 7 of Spades (SMC silicon)
- SMC 8032 CB Ethernet Adapter
- Ositech 10/100 Ethernet/56k Combo CardBus Adapter (SMC silicon)
- Madge Token Ring CardBus
- DMI BIOS does not report the dynamic configuration change caused by warm/hot docking/undocking to network management software.
- LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) cannot be installed if Netfinity has already been installed. Netfinity and LDCM may conflict with each other.
- After installing LDCM, its related programs always run in the background. If other application programs fail, try uninstalling LDCM.
- SelectaDock I/II/III does not support hot or warm docking and undocking in Windows 98. This may happen when certain PCI cards, PnP ISA cards, and PC cards are installed in these docking stations.
- PC cards in SelectaDock I/II/III are not recognized after warm docking.
- MS Video-1 format is not supported.
- (Japan only) SDLC/SDLC modem PC card with PCOM Version 4.2 on Windows 98 and Windows 3.1 is not supported in the slot of the system and the docking station when the system is docked to SelectaDock I and II. These cards are supported with SelectaDock III, and SelectaDock PC Card Enabler SDLC/SDLC modem PC card is not supported on Windows NT.
